Mid Year Book Freakout Tag

Untitled

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019.
Other Words for Smoke by Sarah Maria Griffin, I’ve a feeling this book might appear a few times in this tag 😀 Now one of my favourite books of all time, check it out if you enjoy witchy creepy magical realism, or if you don’t, just read it.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019.
Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa, sequel to Shadow of the Fox. I know this series is hit or miss for most people but I just really love the Japanese and Anime inspiration and got quite attached to these characters. The sequel didn’t let me down and the end was brilliantly done, can’t wait for the next book!

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.
Descendant of the Crane by Joan He, this came out in April and is a Chinese inspired fantasy. I have it on my physical TBR but have yet to read it.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.
Ok, I can’t just pick 1 book for this. Wilder Girls by Rory Power (5 star prediction for me), The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa (one of my favourite Japanese authors), Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan (sequel to Girls of Paper and Fire) and The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black (last book in The Folk of the Air trilogy).

5. Biggest disappointment.
I’d have to say The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco, I really wanted to love this but I just couldn’t properly get in to the story and I just started to get bored with it.

6. Biggest surprise.
The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge, much better and creepier than I had anticipated.

7. Favourite new author.
OK, so I know I’ve only read 1 book by her but, Sarah Maria Griffin. I’m definitely reading whatever she publishes in the future.

8. Newest fictional crush.
Cardan from The Cruel Prince *cough*

9. Newest favourite character.
Celaena/Aelin from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, I just love her OK.

10. Book that made you cry.
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, each of these books have made me cry so far.

11. Book that made you happy.
The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa, all the feels.

12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year.
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, that cover is stunning!

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
I’d like to read the last 3 books in the Throne of Glass series this year ready for the release of her new Adult fantasy series coming in January.

Name in TBR Books Tag

This is a pretty sweet and simple book tag where you just need to spell out your name using books on your current TBR pile. My name (ADELE) was pretty easy for this but I literally only have one book for L that was hiding behind my bookmarks pot. I was tagged by the lovely Keira @Headphonesandhyperboles (she knows I’ve been struggling with blog posts this month haha).

A-Z Book Tag

Here is the first tag post on my blog, thanks to Lauren over at Northern Plunder for tagging me and I tag anyone that wants to do this tag for their own blog! Here goes..

A: author you’ve read the most books from

J. K. Rowling purely because of Harry Potter, though I’m getting pretty close to that with Banana Yoshimoto and Yukio Mishima books.

B: best sequel

I’m going to go with Catching Fire from the Hunger Games series.

C: currently reading

The Wicked King, it’s getting intense I’m scared.

D: drink of choice while reading

Whatever I happen to be drinking.

E: e-book or physical book

Both! Kindle is great for bed time reading because it lights up, during the day I usually read a physical book.

F: fiction character you would have dated in high school

I was always attracted to the dweebs at school so probably Ron Weasley.

G: glad you gave this book a chance

Throne of Glass. I heard so much love/hate regarding the series that I put off trying it, until I tried it. I’m now up to Queen of Shadows.

H: hidden gem book

Revenge by Yoko Ogawa, I will keep mentioning this book until everyone reads it.

I: important moment in your reading life

Watching PewDiePie’s first ‘book review’ video in early 2018 and hearing about Yukio Mishima. I decided to pick up one of his books after not reading a book in years and have been a regular book reader ever since. Cheers Felix.

J: just finished reading

Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend, highly recommend!

K: kind of books you won’t read

I’m rarely in the mood to read contemporary because it’s not a big enough escape from reality for me.

L: longest book you’ve read

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami (617 pages).

M: major book hangover because of

Deathly Hallows, I dragged that book out for months because I didn’t want it to end.

N: number of bookcases you own

3, I would get more but lack of space.

O: one book you’ve read multiple times

I’m pretty sure I’ve yet to re-read a book!

P: prefered place to read

Laying in bed.

Q: quote that inspires you/gives you feels from a book

“He had never been willing to believe that life had to be as gray and dull as people claimed. He heard them saying: “Life is like that,” but he couldn’t agree. He never stopped believing in mysteries and miracles.”
Michael Ende, The Neverending Story.

R: reading regret

There are no books that I regret reading, but I regret NOT reading for so many years.

S: series you’ve started and need to finish

Throne of Glass.

T: three of your all time favourite books

Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami

The Neverending Story by Micheal Ende

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami

U: unapologetic fangirl for

Death Note.

V: very excited for this release

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon.

W: worst bookish habits

Buying books and not reading them for months.

X: x marks the spot! start at the top of your bookshelf and pick the 27th book

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Gryffindor edition.

Y: your latest book purchase

Orange The Complete Collection.

Z: zzz snatcher book, last book that kept you up way too late

The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge, highly recommend!
