K-pop: Me vs. My Friends (ft. Keira) Part 2

This is a K-pop series of posts that me and my friend Keira decided to do for fun! The general idea for this is around on YouTube but we customised the questions to what we wanted and thought would be the most interesting. We are both big K-pop fans but our tastes tend to different as well which makes answering these questions more fun.

I’ve been in to K-pop on and off since early BoA, Wonder Girls (00’s) but became what I consider a hardcore fan in early 2017. Keira has been a K-pop fan since 2016 and she posts a lot about K-pop on her blog which you should definitely go and check out and read Part 1 to this post which is also on her blog.

FAVE ERA/CONCEPT
A: BTS’ Wings era: “Aesthetic. Everything about this concept was beautiful and haunting.”
K: DREAMCATCHER’s Nightmare era: “Incredibly unique concept, slightly creepy yet incredibly beautiful, and I love their rock concept in general.”

FAVE MUSIC VIDEO
A: BTS- DNA: “My introduction to BTS. The music video is so bright and fun and Taehyung looks like an actual god.”
K: Huh Gak- The Last Night: “The simplicity of this music video is what makes it so powerful. I actually cried.”

FAVE CHOREOGRAPHY
A: ATEEZ- HALA HALA: “Ateez have impressed me from the get-go with their choreography but especially in Hala Hala. On point.”
K: SEVENTEEN- THANKS: “I mean, I pretty much could have picked any SEVENTEEN song. They have stunning choreography.”

FAVE STYLING
A: VIXX- Chained Up: “I’m a sucker for a ‘sexy concept’ and Vixx pretty much nailed it with the suits and chokers in Chained Up.”
K: OH MY GIRL- Remember Me: “Slightly mature and very feminine, without being too sexy or too cute… this is the kind of styling I would want if I was in a girl group.”

FAVE BALLAD
A: NU’EST- Hello (honourable mention The Truth Untold): “I feel like Hello is pretty legendary and Minhyuns Yeobosayo gives me chills. The Truth Unbold is my favourite ballad from BTS and the ‘But I still want you’ gives me chills, are we seeing a pattern here?”
K: EXO- Universe (honourable mention: GOT7 Youngjae- Nobody Knows): “This was one of the hardest decisions to make, and I went with EXO’s Universe because Youngjae’s Nobody Knows makes me cry and I was not in the kind of mood where I wanted to cry when making this decision, but really they’re both my favourite.”

FAVE DEBUT TITLE TRACK
A: TXT- Crown: “Very impressed with TXT’s debut and this song was stuck in my head for a few days after.”
K: A.C.E- CACTUS: “The only debut song to ever hook me to a group with literally only one song.”

FAVE DANCE/EDM/POP SONG
A: NCT 127- Touch: “This was my top song of 2018 and is still one of my all time favourite happy songs, it never fails to put me in a good mood.”
K: SEVENTEEN- CLAP: “My all-time favourite SEVENTEEN song. I love the instrumentation and It is ridiculously relatable. Like ‘things get all tangled up like earphones in your pocket’… it doesn’t get more real.”

FAVE R&B SONG
A: V- Stigma: “I’m not huge on R&B songs but Taehyung has the perfect voice for it and it shows with Stigma.”
K: HEIZE- Jenga (ft. Gaeko): “I mean, I literally didn’t know how to begin answering this question. I have so many R&B songs that I love to bits, so I literally just picked one almost at random out of my collection of faves.”

FAVE ROCK SONG
A: DREAMCATCHER- Chase Me: “None of Dreamcatcher’s other songs so far have compared to their debut for me, such a good song and hard to beat.”
K: DAY6- Stop The Rain (honourable mention: The Rose- BABY): “I just… really love this song. If you didn’t count Japanese releases though, I would go with The Rose’s BABY because… Woosung’s voice.”

FAVE HIP HOP/RAP SONG
A: NCT 127- Cherry Bomb: “This song gets me hype, I love everything about it and the music video is kind of crazy in a good way.”
K: RM- seoul: “Another really hard one. I particularly loved RM’s mono album and could have picked almost any song on the album, to be honest.”

FAVE SONG U DON’T KNOW THE GENRE OF
A: Olivia Hye- Egoist: “The dance break part of this song is crazy, the whole song is very experimental and it works.”
K: BTS- Spring Day: “What genre even is this? I don’t know, and to be honest I don’t care because it is a MASTERPIECE.”

SONG WITH BEST RAP
A: BTS- We Are Bulletproof pt. 2: “All of the raps in this song are awesome, a highlight is Suga’s squeek and Jungkook being a legendary rap star.”
K: Lee So Ra- Song Request (ft. SUGA): “This song has a really unique narrative which the rap suits perfectly (and well, we established in Part 1 of this series that Suga is my favourite rapper, so this isn’t really a surprising choice).”

SONG THAT GOT YOU INTO KPOP
A: SEVENTEEN- VERY NICE: “I fell in love with this song and music video and decided to look for more K-pop groups which then lead me to Nu’est and the end of my life as I knew it.”
K: Blood Sweat & Tears (honourable mention: vixx- fantasy): “If I’m being totally honest, it was the music video of Blood Sweat & Tears, followed by VIXX’s Fantasy, not the music that got me into K-Pop… but I do love the song as well.”

A: NU’EST- Overcome: “Still my favourite title track from Nu’est.”
K: The Night of Seokyo- Dancing In The Moon (ft. Dawon): “Dawon’s voice is gorgeous, and The Night of Seokyo are genius producers. The perfect recipe!”
